This week on the 129th edition of Social Blend, Jay is out of the house, but filling his shoes for the show are Dave3 from GeeksOfDoom.com, Brian Hill aka Bdog2g2, and Brian Bickerton aka Tau_Zero. We kick off the show with a discussion about the major geek events over the last weekend – PAX, which Tau_Zero attended; and Dragon*Con, which Dave discusses with reports from Tched via articles at GeeksOfDoom.com.

We also have a quick follow-up on the controversies surrounding the new Digg redesign, with remarks from Kevin Rose as well as news that the VP for engineering has been let go from Digg.com as a result of the new site layout. We take a look at the return of Rick Astley, with his first new single release since the RickRoll phenomenon exploded on the web. We also discuss the breaking news about Mike Portnoy leaving the band Dream Theater, a revelation that has been sad news for the metalhead community.

On the other side of the Geek coin, we discuss some of the interesting movies soon to be coming out around the world, as well as an interesting TV series concept in development from Ronald D. Moore who was responsible for the rebirth of Battlestar Galactica.

Trust us, it sucks… totally. HOWEVER, we kick off the show taking a look at the oddity that is Mark Zuckerberg and how you cannot block him on Facebook. Following this, we take a glance at the unusual story of an Australian teacher setting an assignment for her students to plan a devastating terrorist attack – wait… WTF?

We also look at the impending solar storms due to affect Earth in a few years, which leads us to the most logical conclusion possible: OMG THE WORLD WILL END IN 2012. Actually, no, but we do debate the issue of prophecy and apocalypse as it relates to the myths surrounding 2012. Also, we discuss Cee Lo Green’s amazing song, "FUCK YOU", and how it took the web by storm.

Also, did you know Digg doesn’t have a video section anymore? I mean, WTF is up with that, right? And what’s this about Hitler being descended from Jews? We discuss that as well!

Socialus Blendificus 124: Third Time’s A Charm

Episode 124 of Social Blend is the episode brought to you as a trilogy in one part. We started recording this show with Andrew Zilch, who gives us a brief recap of his experiences at Comic-Con this year before Jay’s power went out. We retried recording this show a second time, but Jay lost the recording. So for the third part, we’re joined by Andrew Sorcini, who fives us a brief recap of his experiences at Comic-Con this year.

Amazed at the fact that Jay’s power did not go out this second, we decided to talk about other stuff as well! Leading the show, we discuss the major bombshell dropped on the Digg community this week, with the findings from an undercover investigation unveiling a massive well-organized voting ring/bury brigade dedicated to promoting conservative-only articles and submissions – with aims at trying to ban numerous users. TARDISblend 14: The Big Bang

The season finale of Doctor Who Series Five, The Big Bang, concludes Matt Smith’s first series as the good Doctor and wraps the first major story arc involving the Cracks in the Universe, the Pandorica, and the mysterious Silence. The TARDIS has (or is currently) destroying the universe because of its explosion – joining forces with Amy Pond, Rory Williams, and River Song, how can the Doctor save something that seemingly has already been destroyed? And at what cost? The Big Bang answers many of these questions, but also poses countless more as this season draws to a close.

During TARDISblend 14, we take a look at how Steven Moffat uses some ridiculous yet entertaining time loops within the story. The Big Bang (or rather "Big Bang II" as the Doctor calls it) has caused the reboot and recreation of a brand new universe, and we examine how this major plot device has and could have changed past adventures and future stories. We also take a look at some of the hints Moffat gave to this reboot during the course of the season. Later, we lay down some predictions for what may be coming in Series Six, and discuss some of our favorite moments and characters from Series Five.

And, even though this is end of the Doctor Who season, the TARDISblend WILL return. We plan to have a couple of episodes over the next few months, reviewing news and rumors, and also will be having a special episode for the 2010 Christmas Special. On top of that, we’ll also be continuing TARDISblend episodes not only for episodes of Doctor Who, but also for The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood.
